1. Dress for Success!

Come prepared with proper business to business casual attire and printed or digitally shareable resumes.

(Psst… you can develop your resume with your Career Pathways profile!)

Not sure if you have the right attire? Check out UNL’s “Look the Part.”

Ultimately, dress professionally, but know there is no need to buy a new outfit to attend. The purpose of the Youth Summit is to connect you to your future, so let’s make the most of it together!

2. Make Yourself a Home Run!

Practice pitching yourself in 30 seconds and giving a handshake.

A good introduction can include:

    • Your name, your year in school, and what your goal of the day is (i.e., networking, jobs, internships, learn more about education opportunities)
    • Your name, your year in school, and why you wanted to talk to that specific college or business
    • Your name, your year in school, and your future career goals

3. Let’s Get Down to Business.

Gather questions about the job or college you are interested in. It is important to do your research on the colleges or businesses you are interested in to improve your networking skills!

Possible topics to ask about for colleges:

    • Tuition costs and available programs
    • Scholarships and student benefits (i.e., game tickets, discounts in campus stores)
    • Resume review programs, job fairs, interview preparation help
    • Parking and walkability

Example questions for jobs:

    • Do you have any advice on what skills I can work on to become a good candidate for this company?
    • What is the best way to gain relevant experience for this kind of position?
    • When you started working at this company, what was the hardest thing to get used to?
    • What would a typical day look like on the job?
    • What benefits are available to employees?
