Matt Dennis & Michael Stepp

Handlebend
215 East Douglas
O’Neill, NE 68763
Email: copper@handlebend.com
Lifelong friends-turned business partners, Michael and Matt share the common sentiment of the importance of raising their families in rural Nebraska. After graduation from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, they each began their respective careers in Omaha and Lincoln. Years in the city-scape helped to highlight their appreciation for their rural upbringing; when the family life began, they found their way “back home” to help run and grow family businesses with their fathers. It was “back home” where their side-project became a successful (albeit unlikely) business building and shipping copper mugs nationwide. 5 years of a growing Handlebend finds them with a remodeled historical O’Neill building, a taproom featuring Nebraska beers and spirits, and a talented team aimed at building community, and promoting the good times spent with family and friends unplugged from the modern hectic life.

The couple has received multiple small business awards, including Congressman Adrian Smith’s Excellence in Economic Development Award and a “Light It Up” Entrepreneurship Award from the University of Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship and Rural Development.
